We visited the region anonymously, making our own choices and paying our bills in full.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is it difficult to park in Rethymnon?<\/h2>\n\n<p>Yes and no. R\u00e9thymnon is more affordable than other <a href=\"https:\/\/cretelovers.com\/en\/best-cities-crete-towns\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"1318\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">towns on Crete<\/a> when it comes to parking, but the situation becomes more complicated as soon as you approach the center. The historic center is closed to non-resident traffic during the tourist season, from April 1 to November 15. We&#8217;ve found that the parking lots in the center fill up especially in the late afternoon, when visitors and locals converge on the taverns in the old town. Blue lines indicate paid parking spaces, to be paid for at a parking meter or <em>via<\/em> the municipal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rethymno.guide\/fr\/plan-your-visit-fr\/already-here-fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">ParkALot<\/a> application. White lines indicate free parking spaces, while yellow lines are strictly reserved for residents, deliveries and emergencies. We would like to remind you that traffic in the Old Town is forbidden to non-residents from April 1 to November 15, especially after 7.30pm. It&#8217;s imperative to arrive before 10 a.m. to find a seat easily. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are staying in Rethymnon, ask your accommodation provider about parking options.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accommodation in the pedestrianized old town: vehicle access is only allowed during the day to unload luggage (before 7.30pm, via El. Venizelos street or Arkadiou street). The car must then be moved to a long-term peripheral parking lot. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Beware of events: the Quatre Martyrs parking lot closes during the Rethymnon Carnival and major markets, and the pound is quick to respond.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As in all tourist areas: do not leave any visible objects or luggage in the passenger compartment. It&#8217;s right opposite the Church of the Four Martyrs, next to the Municipal Garden, and just a few steps away from the southern entrance to the historic center. We like its location, which means you can reach Arkadiou Street and its stores in less than 5 minutes. But be warned: demand is very high, especially in the evening, so aim for the morning slot.   <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Crete\/Rethymnon\/Town\/i-dQWmBXp\/0\/M9CbhhnPH8xgKhJQsvMR9tvf8c33KddqMZVVwcFv5\/L\/Rethymno-crete-greece-3975-L.jpg\" alt=\"Rethymnon - Where to park to visit the historic center\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where to park to visit the Fortezza<\/h3>\n\n<p>The Fortezza, a 16th-century citadel perched high above the sea, is the city&#8217;s most visited monument. There are two main options for getting up close and personal: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Parking Venetian Harbor<\/strong>: a 3-minute walk from the old port, with stairs leading up to the citadel.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Free zones under the ramparts<\/strong>: dirt areas along the Leoforos Emmanouil Kefalogianni, at the foot of the fortress.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Crete\/Rethymnon\/Venetian-Fortezza\/i-ksjzQBg\/0\/LgFRzxb8mWXKRxbZx4kPp5cHsPJ9DCPd6JCLstGLB\/L\/fortezza-rethymno-parking-L.jpg\" alt=\"Rethymnon - Where to park to visit the Fortezza\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where can I park to enjoy the beach and promenade?<\/h3>\n\n<p>If you want to take advantage of the large sandy beach and seafront promenade, <strong>Marina Parking<\/strong> is the obvious choice: it&#8217;s located along Sofokli Venizelou Avenue, at the entrance to the marina. From the parking lot, you have direct access to the waterfront, and a self-service electric bike station awaits you near the Delfini building. We find this a convenient place to combine a swim with a stroll.
